Reach Truck
A reach truck is used to store supplies, pallets of goods, and to keep storage places orderly. The reach truck is available in several kinds: the stand-up reach, double-deep reach and straddle reach.
The stand-up is the most basic. The truck forks slide under the pallet and move it to the appropriate storage location. The forks slide the pallet into position. This particular kind of reach truck is suitable when shelving units are only one pallet in depth.
The double-deep reach truck is similar to the stand-up, but is best for workplaces where shelving units are deep enough to have two pallets of goods. This version has telescopic forks designed to place the pallet at the rear of the shelving unit. This eliminates the need to push the pallet back when one more pallet needs to go into the same shelving section.
The additional advantage of straddle reaches is that they could both slide under the pallet and grasp the sides also. These are recommended for workplaces where shelving units can be accessed in multiple directions. This model is ideal in situations where goods would not be damaged if the pallet sides are grabbed.
Normally more than one kind of reach truck is required inside warehouses. Textile companies and manufacturing facilities utilize various kinds of reach trucks in their supply areas. The reach truck is not hard to operate and can increase productivity while maximizing available storage space.
