There are actually 2 kinds of forklifts, predicated whether or not they run on electricity or gas:

Internal Combustion or IC Forklifts: The Internal Combustion Forklifts run on gas, liquid propane, CNG or compressed natural gas or diesel. The gas powered models are made to be utilized outside as they emit gases and pollutants that could be dangerous if inhaled. Models which run on gasoline are also great to be used in the rain and in bad climate. These models can carry weights about 15,000 to 35,000 pounds. Because of the fuel expenses and maintenance, units which run on gas are more costly to use than units that run on electricity, although, they cost less up front compared to the electric units. Models that run on liquid propane are the best choice for safe use indoors.

Electric Lift Trucks: Electric lift trucks take batteries that need frequent charging. As these models do not burn any fuel, there are no emissions polluting the air with these machinery. They are the best alternative for warehouses and indoor use. Additionally, forklifts that run on electricity do not require any fuel storage units and they are a lot quieter to run compared to other units. One of the disadvantages of the electric units is that they are unable to carry loads more than 15,000 pounds and therefore, have a slower acceleration than gasoline powered units.

The forklift is particularly designed to move goods and materials quickly and easily. Mishaps do happen on a regular basis as is the case with most types of machines. There are specific safety regulations which must be followed in order to keep everybody safe. The most important problem is recruiting a qualified operator, who will be able to show you a valid forklift license.

On the market nowadays, there are many different kinds of forklifts available. Choosing which one is best for your particular requirements would be based on the types of loads which you need to transport, what type of environment your machinery will have to operate in, for instance, outdoors or indoors or both. When you know your particular needs, it would be really easy to match up to the right type of forklift. When you know all your requirements exactly you will be able to make an accurate decision.

Another great way to get first hand experience on the different lift truck units is the try renting your lift truck. This would also enable you to see all the possible options available to you. This is a cheaper way to determine if the equipment you have selected can keep up with you on the job location.
