The lift truck is offered in a wide variety of power types such as gas powered, diesel, electric, diesel and LP or liquid propane models. The load capacities of these units vary greatly because there are a lot of manufacturers designing and building them. Like for instance, several units could reach a height of over 10,000 kg or over 3000.

The truck's frame is the base of the power source and is the place where the other features are attached. These various features include mast and axles, the counterweight and an overhead guard. On the rear side there is a counterweight attached to the truck. This counterweight counterbalances the load which is being lifted in order to keep the machine stable.

The operator sits inside a cab and utilizes the controls to dictate the machine's movements. The overhead is one more feature, that is a metal roof in order to protect the operator from falling objects. Hydraulic tilt cylinders mounted to the frame and the mast. These tilts pivot the mast so as to engage the load. The mast is a vertical assembly that lowers and raises the load with the interlocking rails to provide lateral stability.
